Coca-Cola Bottle Cap Holiday Event
This holiday season I was given a fun opportunity to build with something other than with LEGO, but still using something small and plastic. I was commissioned to build a 3D replica of the Toys for Tots train completely out of Coca-Cola bottle caps. In addition, I did a portrait of the world famous Coca-Cola polar bear. I used about 44,000 caps for the train and the portrait had exactly 4,599 caps.
The Toys for Tots train logo was personally designed by Walt Disney in 1948. And almost 60 years later I have rendered it, not only in 3D, but out of small round caps. Building the train was a challenge. Anytime you take a 2D logo and try and translate it into a 3D sculpture presents some difficult problems. Oh, and did I mention it was out of bottle caps?
The polar bear portrait will be on permanent display at the World of Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.
